History of Housing and Urban Planning

The history of the Ministry of Housing dates back to 1975, when the Emir of Bahrain His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa issued a decree to establish the Ministry of Housing to provide social housing for citizens with low income, and Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa was appointed as the first Minister of Housing.

The Ministry of Housing provides a number of housing services for citizens, under the framework of abiding to the Kingdom’s constitution, particularly topic 9 that stipulates “the country provides housings for people with low income”, and provides the following services:

1. Housing financial services
2. Housing Units Service.
3. Ownership apartments service.
4. Land Housing Service.

thousands of housing services for citizens, weather it is housing projects of financial services, which contributed to allowing thousands of Bahraini families to obtain their proper homes. The Ministry continues to implement its plans and programs that aim to provide housing services for citizens with low income.
