Her Excellency Ms. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, affirmed that the Ministry continues its efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and various international institutions, contributing to raising the quality of housing projects and supporting urban development paths, particularly for the historic and cultural buildings and cities of the Kingdom of Bahrain. She noted the existing joint cooperation with relevant institutions in the friendly United Kingdom, which is pushing it toward more advanced levels of strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.This came when Her Excellency met today with a delegation from the King Charles Charitable Foundation during their visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Alastair Long, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Kingdom.
During the meeting, the Ministry gave a detailed presentation on the development of historical urban areas in the Kingdom, and reviewed the executive plans for projects to develop the city of Muharraq, as well as the project to develop the historical area of Manama Souq, including restoration and urban development works, developing infrastructure services and reviving the social and cultural role of these sites.
The meeting was attended from the Bahraini side by Eng. Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Khayat, CEO of the Urban Planning and Development Authority, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Ms. Sarah Ahmed Buhaji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, and a number of officials.
A delegation from the King Charles Charity Foundation then made a field visit to the Muharraq City Development Project, where they were briefed on the project's phases and the engineering and architectural approach taken to preserve the urban fabric and revive the city's historical identity. They also visited the Manama Souq Historic District Development Project, where they were briefed on ongoing development work and plans to stimulate commercial and cultural activity in the heart of the capital.
The delegation also visited the Khalifa City project, which witnessed prior cooperation between the Ministry and the Foundation in the planning and implementation phases of the city's first phase.
The delegation listened to an extensive explanation of city planning, urban design standards used to achieve integrated and sustainable residential communities, and the housing and service projects that will be implemented during the next phase.
