 In line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to preserve Bahrain’s historical and cultural identity, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, conducted a field visit to Muharraq City Development Project to inspect its progress.

 

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla affirmed that the Royal Vision is a key pillar of the ongoing urban development in Muharraq. He noted that historical and cultural identity is essential to city planning and to preserving urban landmarks. He added that the development works reflect the government’s commitment, under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to preserving the city’s heritage, upgrading its infrastructure and services, and turning its historical legacy into a sustainable cultural and economic asset. This approach positions Muharraq as a model of balanced development that supports modernisation while protecting the Kingdom’s urban heritage.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that ongoing works across the project’s sites follow a comprehensive vision based on coordination among all relevant entities operating under the Team Bahrain approach. This ensures integrated efforts and helps accelerate progress. He added that this unified approach supports implementation to the highest standards, preserves Muharraq’s historical character, and meets the needs of residents while advancing development.

 

During the field visit, the Deputy Prime Minister was briefed by Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, on the development of Shaikh Abdullah Avenue and Shaikh Isa Avenue, which include upgrades to infrastructure services and façades in alignment with the Isa Al Kabeer Palace Project. The completion rate has reached 37%.

 

Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, then discussed the under-construction Visitors Centre of the Muharraq City Development Project. She explained that the centre will serve as a platform to present and document the project’s vision and main phases. It will also include offices to receive applications and enquiries related to the project, raise awareness of the importance of preserving the city’s historical and cultural identity, facilitate procedures, and enhance communication between property owners and relevant entities. The completion rate currently stands at 65%.

 

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla also reviewed progress in the first phase of the housing units project at Freej Seyadi and Freej Bin Hindi. This phase includes the construction and restoration of 300 housing units across several neighbourhoods of the city, designed according to modern urban standards that respect the heritage character and social fabric of older areas. He also inspected the model housing units at both sites, where the completion rate has reached 66%.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by the work teams across all relevant entities. He highlighted the importance of continuing the implementation of the project’s phases according to approved timelines and with quality that reflects the historical standing of Muharraq and its role in shaping national identity.

 

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah affirmed that preserving Muharraq’s architectural and heritage character is a national priority supported by His Majesty the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He also commended the cooperation of residents and their contributions to the success of the development project.

 

Minister Al Rumaihi affirmed that these field visits reflect the support and attention given by the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah, to ensure implementation according to the highest standards and in line with the project’s objectives.

 

She emphasised that the Muharraq City Development Project embodies the vision of His Majesty the King and the directives of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister aimed at promoting sustainable urban development and preserving Bahrain’s rich heritage. She noted that the project strengthens Muharraq’s status as a historical, cultural, and urban symbol of the Kingdom.

 

Minister Al Rumaihi added that the project represents a model of integrated coordination among government entities in implementing major development projects, which has accelerated progress and led to tangible achievements that benefit citizens while preserving the authentic urban identity of areas with cultural and historical significance.
